While coffee in Sidama has long been exported around the world, it has only recently become an officially recognized region of Ethiopia. After an overwhelming 98.5% vote in favour of increased autonomy in a referendum in November 2019, the Sidama region was created in June 2020. It is the leading coffee producer in the country, accounting for over a quarter of the yearly production.
This coffee is sourced from brothers Asefa & MuluGeta Dukamo at the Daye Bensa Coffee Farm in Shantawene Village, Sidama. Though Daye Bensa Coffee is now a leading exporter of Ethiopian coffee and has a network of dry mills & washing stations in the Sidama region, this coffee was grown on the original farm started by Asefa Dukamo.
Though this coffee was washed at one of Daye Bensa Coffee's washing stations, it has been decaffeinated by Swiss Water in Vancouver. Their process excels at maintaining the unique elements of origin while removing caffeine. The result is a coffee with dark chocolate and cherry notes.
