Peru Dermali Silva Lizana

Dermali Silva Lizana and her family cultivate 2 hectares of coffee in La Laguna, part of the Chirinos district, Cajamarca. Dermali, the daughter of a coffee community leader, Don Levi Silva, has coffee in her blood. She is also a chef specializing in Peru's regional cuisine. Since the pandemic, she has dedicated herself to supporting her coffee farm. Today, she manages her farm and is a proud member of the Pawqara Women's program, PAWQARA - Mujeres Resilientes, which provides women with opportunities and support. Angel Noriega and Cati Simon, with the support of Michael and Emily McIntyre of ZEM Coffee and two key buyers, one in the USA and (us) in Canada, have been instrumental in helping this all-woman co-op showcase their exceptional coffee production and entrepreneurial skills. The Pawqara Women's program has already seen significant success, with its members producing high-quality coffee and making a name for themselves in the industry. Dermali and her family cultivate a diverse range of coffee varieties on their farm—Caturras, Bourbon, Pache, San Antonio, and improved Catimores. They are unwaveringly committed to enhancing their agricultural practices and processing methods to yield superior-quality coffees.
