Alajuela is a department of Costa Rica in the north-central region of the country. Elevations here range from 900-1400 masl, and the region is blessed with a variety of micro-climates suitable for coffee production.
This coffee is sourced from Hacienda La Candelaria near the city of Palmares, Alajuela. Established in 1965 by Otto Kloeti, the farm spans 150 hectares, blending coffee production with a natural forest preserve. Currently managed as a family business by Hans Aeberhard since 1980, the farm actively engages in wildlife protection and reforestation programs, holding Rain Forest Alliance certification. Beyond the property, La Candelaria contributes to the community by providing economic aid to a nearby rural school for nutrition and learning supplies. The region's soil is conducive to coffee cultivation, enriched by volcanic elements and organic matter, fostering healthy root structures and moisture retention.
The resulting cup reminds us of kola nut & malted chocolate.
