Caranavi is a province in the department of La Paz, in western Bolivia. It is located on the Andean plateau, the largest high plateau on the planet outside of Tibet. The mild climates and decent annual rainfall provide ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. Since 2003, Caranavi has been the main source of Bolivian coffee production.
This coffee comes from Julio Palli in Copacabana, Canavari. Julio has been growing coffee for six years on his 0.5-hectare plot named Finca Bartolome. He has been part of Agricafé’s 'Sol de la Mañana' program, Bolivia's main exporter, since he started his farm, learning best practices in nursery and farm management, plant nutrition, specialized harvesting, and biodiversity. Last year, he built a house on the farm, where he now spends most of his days instead of in the city. His daughter helps him pick cherries and maintain the nursery.
The resulting cup has notes of pear and dark chocolate.
