The Western Province is one of Rwanda’s five provinces created in the early 2000’s after a restructuring of governmental structures. It is know for its mountainous terrains and hosts one of the great African lakes, Lake Kivu.
This coffee is sourced from Jean Marie Vianney “JMV” Usekanabagoyi in the Nyamasheke district of the Western Province. JMV grows Red Bourbon on his 2.2 hectare farm in the Buskekeri sector of Nyamasheke. He delivers his cherries to the Ngoma Washing Station, located just off the nearby shores of Lake Kivu. His coffee is kept separate throughout the entire process of sorting, drying, storing, milling, etc, which isn’t very common in Rwanda.
The resulting cup reminds us of blackberry, fruit jam & cacao.
