Sacatepéquez is a department of Central Guatemala. It is largely mountainous and hosts a chain of active & dormant volcanoes including Acatenago, Volcan De Agua, and Volcan de Fuego. The volcanic soil and high altitudes make for ideal coffee growing conditions.
This coffee is sourced from Ricardo Zelaya and his farm Finca Carrizal in Antigua, Sacatepéquez. Finca Carrizal has a very special place in Ricardo’s heart as it was his first coffee farm. In 1986, at just 21 years old, he bought his own piece of land right next to his family’s farm. Here he has had the freedom and infrastructure to experiment using everything he’s learned over a lifetime in coffee.
The resulting cup reminds us of caramel, pecan & milk chocolate.
