Nariño is a southwestern department of Colombia, bordered by Ecuador and the Pacific Ocean. The volcanic soil from the Andes gives this region a strong agricultural sector. The Andean highlands have ideal coffee growing condition, whereas the Pacific lowlands' main crop is banana.
This coffee is sourced from Carlos Castillo and his El Cajón farm in Cundinamarca, Nariño. Carlos, his wife and three children are all involved in coffee growing operations. With all they have invested in the coffee industry, the family has decided to focus on the quality of their coffee in an effort to achieve some sustainability, and are planning improvements to the farm, including a new storage area and a new wet mill.
The resulting cup reminds us of chocolate cookie, caramel and grape.
