Nyeri County in central Kenya is located on the southwestern flank of Mount Kenya stratovolcano. It has the highest coffee pedigree in the country due to its rich volcanic soil and proximity to the lush territory of Aberdare National Park.
This coffee is sourced from the Kiandu Washing Station and 1524 smallholder producers in the town of Tetu, Nyeri. Kiandu factory was formed in 1970 under a larger group called Tetu Coffee Growers. It wasn’t until 2011 that Kiandu became a society of its own. The majority of producers also grow food crops like corn, beans and sweet potatoes. Members of the society have access to pre-financed services such as medical, school, and farm inputs. Overall investment has led to an increase in coffee production and high returns for producers.
The resulting cup reminds us of cantaloup, grapefruit & assam tea.
